EYE GLASS CASE

DIRECTIONS

To make the basic 9 inch square, you will need:
Fabric - 3 solids and 2 prints - or - 2 solids and 3 prints
Pellon fleece to be used as batting.
Lining material the size of the square.
#8 Perle Cotton (several colors)
1 large crewel needle (package size 5/10)
Scissors
Pins

Crazy quilting was traditionally worked on muslin sheeting which required a large, flat surface as a work area. Using blocks of Pellon fleece for backing allows much more portability and easier handling.

BASIC LAYOUT
Cut fabric in 3 to 4 inch strips.
Fold the strips of fabric into odd, angular shapes; cut as you go along.
Begin laying and pinning the pieces of fabric on a 9 inch square of fleece.
Work from one side and angle the pieces in a shape somewhat like a fan.
Continue working the the same direction until the fleece is covered.
Cut excess fabric away as you work.
After layout is complete, turn Pellon fleece to wrong side and accurately trim away fabrics that extend over the edges of the fleece. Then begin to embroider. Embellish with beads, buttons and/or charms.

Regular size glasses will need a basic square 7-1/2" x 8" - add additional for over-sized glasses. To assemble eye glass case... stitch lining to quilted piece at top (8" side) with right sides together. Fold in half. Stitch according to arrows on sketch below (1/2" seam allowance), leaving top of lining open. Turn lining down to right side out, then turn eye glass case right side out.

8" SIDE

OPTIONAL METHOD: A solid piece of fabric layered with Pellon fleece and backing, closely hand quilted, then embellished with semi-precious stone beads makes a beautiful eye glass case.
